Get Rid of Lice with a Robi Comb {Giveaway} Ends 11/11

If you have a school-aged child, you may have dealt with head lice already.  My oldest daughter just started school last year (Young 4's) and is now in Kindergarten.  We have thankfully avoided the lice bug so far, but there was a scare last year.  Another child in the classroom had it, so we had to be extra watchful to make sure our daughter didn't get it.

We heard many ideas for how to avoid &/or treat lice if necessary- oil in the hair being a popular one.  But who wants to have to put that in their child's hair and than leave it in for hours, or worse use a chemical shampoo?  So even though we haven't had lice in our household (knock on wood), I am now more aware of the facts and fiction of the best and easiest ways to treat lice.  And by far, the product that looks the best, and most effective to me is the Robi Comb.
The LiceGuard Robi Comb is safe and effective and offers these great features:

• Detects Lice - Just comb through dry hair
• Destroys Lice on Contact
• No Chemicals / Non-Toxic
• No Mess, No Gels, No Oils
• No Odor or Fragrance
• Use Anywhere and Anytime on Dry Hair
• Reusable and Economical

Stay prepared... you can buy the Robi Comb online... and 1 lucky reader is also going to WIN a Robi Comb to have in their mom arsenal.

Is your Child getting enough Nutrients? {Nordic Naturals Review & Giveaway} Ends 11/9

I always worry that my kids aren't getting everything they should to help them stay healthy and grow up strong.  And I am always on the lookout for a multi-vitamin that my kids will take daily and enjoy.  Well I was recently introduced to a company called Nordic Naturals.
Nordic Naturals began in Arctic Norway and since 1995 their mission has been "to deliver pure and great-tasting omega fish oils that promote optimal health and wellness".  Fish oil, or Omega-3 Essential Fatty Acids (ALA, EPA, & DHA), are important for every aspect of your child's functioning, from hormone regulation to healthy vision.  Most mom's now know that DHA is necessary for proper brain and nerve development in infants and children.
I received two samples for my daughter to try.  The Nordic Berries Multivitamin is like a sour gumdrop but very soft and chewy.  It wasn't so sour that it made your mouth pucker but had the sugary crunchy coating to it (it's actually organic sucrose crystals).  My 5 year old daughter said she really liked the way they tasted!

The Children's DHA looks just like a fish oil capsule and can be swallowed, or is actually chewable, with a strawberry flavor.  These didn't go over quite as well as the Nordic Berries.  The whole chewable thing isn't really ideal- it doesn't break right away and then the oil squirts out and you're left with the shell, which my daughter and I both spit out.  I'd say these are best for kids that are old enough to swallow a pill.  Otherwise go with the liquid Children's DHA.

Giveaway:  One lucky reader is going to win a bottle of Omega-3 Gummy Worms

How to enter (leave a separate comment for each one you do, or already do):

The Talk vs. The View

Did you watch The Talk at all last week?  It aired on CBS for it's first full week, 2pm ET 1p PT/CT, and is co-hosted by Julie Chen, Sara Gilbert, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Reminy, and their 'street reporter' Marissa Jaret Winokur who are all mom's, with kids ranging in age from infant to adult.  The concept for the show was actually Sarah Gilbert's idea, stemming from her questions and confusion as a new mom.
I happened to catch it on in the middle of the week and thought it was pretty good.  My first reaction was surprise, because I had never even heard about it before this, and my second reaction was 'oh, it's just like The View, just different hosts'.

I've watched The View quite a few times before, but not regularly, and found it to be a little uncomfortable to watch- a bunch of women sitting around, usually talking over each other, and more often than not talking politics... I've turned the channel to something else quite a few times while watching it.  The Talk was a little awkward to watch at times also, the chemistry between them just isn't there yet, and it was a lot of 'oh you go ahead' being repeated as they tried not to all talk at once several times.  But I think I'll be watching it some more, it seems to be based more for moms than The View.

So if you've seen The Talk, what's your take?  Is this better than The View, worse, pretty much the same, or do you think it's a whole new concept with just the same 'talk show' platform?  Or could you care less about either?

NMEDA- Helping the Elderly and Disabled get Back on the Road of Independence

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of NMEDA. All opinions are 100% mine.
You may or may not have ever heard of NMEDA.  NMEDA is a non-profit trade association of mobility equipment dealers, driver rehabilitation specialists, and other professionals dedicated to broadening the opportunities for people with disabilities to drive or be transported in vehicles modified with mobility equipment.  And after learning about NMEDA, you may or may not have any need for them.  But imagine if you did sometime in the future.  Or maybe you do have a family member who could benefit from their services now.

If you're a caregiver for someone with a disability it can be a tough job, and no two people with a disability are exactly the same.  After a personalized “in-person” evaluation (beware of adapted wheelchair vehicles sold over the Internet or through catalogs), you can be sure you are getting the right driving solution customized to your specific lifestyle and needs.  And if you need additional training or product refinements, your NMEDA dealer is there to help you.

NMEDA does not sell anything.  NMEDA is the only association that promotes safe driving and equipment for disabled people.  They are non-profit and their members are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.  NMEDA dealers, the members, are the ones who sell handicap vans and vehicle modifications for disabled people.  You can read more about the entire purchase process on their site.
NMEDA has Dealers AND Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers.  The Quality Assurance Program (QAP) is the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the Adaptive Mobility Equipment Industry.  It is based on the principle that in order to satisfy customers consistently, companies must have a systematic and documented approach to quality.

You can locate a qualified NMEDA dealer right from their website, either by State or Zip Code, and you'll be able to see whether they're also a QAP dealer.  I was unaware that there are actually several around the area here in Michigan.  You can also stay connected with NMEDA on  Twitter and Facebook.

Pear Tree Greetings Thank You Cards {Giveaway} Ends 11/5

A simple thank you can mean so much, those two words can make the person hearing, or reading them feel truly wonderful inside.  I've gotten Thank You cards before- mainly after giving a gift.  But the best Thank You card I ever received was from my husband, it was after the birth of one of our beautiful daughters.

It wasn't a 'Congrats We're Parents' card or a 'New Baby' card, it was a Thank You card... and it meant more to me than anything.  I had just gone through one of the hardest things I would ever go through in my life, and he validated that for me by thanking me and letting me know he realized what I'd just been through.  He may not even remember that, but I do... and probably always will.

Can you remember the best Thank You card you've ever gotten?

Onto the giveaway, one lucky reader is going to receive a set of 16 Thank You cards from Pear Tree Greetings to spread their own kindness by saying thank you.

Pear Tree Greetings has a large selection of Thank You cards to choose from, whether it's for Christmas, a Baby Shower, Kid's Birthday, or just an everyday Thank You card.

Bummas Wipes {Review and Giveaway} Ends 11/3

"After the Wipe and before the Dipe,
Use a soft kiss of cloth to dry bums off.
Keep diaper rash at bay the Bummas way!"

If you have a tiny baby bum in your home, you need to check out these cloth wipes from Bummas.  Bummas Wipes are the perfect size to carry with you when on the go- in the diaper bag or even your purse, they're just 5" x 7", and are great for a multitude of uses.

First as in their slogan above, you use it to dry your baby's bottom off after you use a wet baby wipe and before you put on the new diaper.  This eliminates the need to try to blow or wave your hand around trying to dry the area (you know you've done it before).  Those methods of drying all just make our babies cold, but using Bumma's is soft, warm, and fast for drying their little bottom's.

It's also great if you have a bouncing baby boy to help 'avert the squirt' (you mom's of boy's know all about this), just place over his 'squirter' while wiping the rest of the bum and then put the new diaper on.  You can also wet it and use it as a cloth baby wipe for those sensitive bottoms.  And the best part... then you just throw it in the wash to use again and again!

I received the newest Bummas- the Tropical Ones, and as I found out they're not just great for little bums, they're also great for wiping baby's face and for bathtime.  I was out of my usual baby washcloths (I was slightly behind in the laundry department), and wasn't sure what I was going to use when I remembered about the Bummas... perfect!  It was big enough to do the job, super soft, and the bright fun color was fun for my daughter to look at (and try to grab from me).
I love having these in my mommy arsenal, you get 10 in a pack so there's enough to spread around- a few on the changing table, a couple in the bathroom, and of course some in the diaper bag... never far from reach.  I also love that they're made from 100% Cotton- Woven Velour Terry Cloth and that they're Made in the USA!

You can buy Bummas online or at these retailers.

One lucky reader is going to get their own set of Bumma's Tropical Ones- you can keep them for yourself or use for an awesome baby shower gift.

How to enter, do any of the following (leave a separate comment for each):

• Visit Bummas and tell me a retail store that sells them

Having Company over and Cleaning up

No I'm not talking about having your company over to help you clean up like a cleaning party, how one might have a painting party.  I'm talking about cleaning before company comes over.  The getting ready, tidying up, last minute vacuuming and dusting.
There's nothing more motivating for me to really give my house a good cleaning than having a houseful of people on their way over.  And that's usually the way it works... company is coming the next day, or the same day, and I look around and notice papers on the counter, crumbs on the floor, toys all over the living room, laundry in the bathroom.... the usual chaos.
My home is lived in... by 2 adults and 3 young kids ages 5 and under, it is no way a model home.  It's comfortable and laid back... and sometimes messy, cluttered, and disorderly.  Of course I try to keep it neat and clean and organized on a daily basis, but that doesn't stop the mess from piling up.  So I've found myself up late many a night, or rushing around minutes before guests arrive, trying to get my house put back together... only to have my little monsters ahem, lovely children terrorize re-arrange everything again the very next day.

How do you get ready for company... last-minute cleaning or what you see is what you get?

Do you celebrate Sweetest Day with your Sweetie?

Disclaimer:  The last link in this post is not G-rated.  I was given a product in exchange for my post.  No other compensation was received.  All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own, yours may differ.

For lots of people, Sweetest Day is just a Hallmark Holiday- thought up by candy and cardmakers to boost sales.  Actually the first Sweetest Day, back in Oct. 1921, began as a day to spread love and cheer to the less fortunate.  It was planned by a committee of 12 confectioners who distributed over 20,000 boxes of candy to newsboys, orphans, old folks, and the poor.  It's now known as a day to show affection to the one's you love, namely your significant other.
I know lots of people don't really celebrate Sweetest Day, but when you think about it- isn't it nice to have a day to remind us to recognize and appreciate the love in our life?  And no, you shouldn't need a holiday to remind you, but with life it's easy to overlook and take for granted the person that means the most to you.

So why not use the day to show your other half how much you love having them in your life?  As women, and more so as moms, we tend to almost always be multi-tasking and thinking of a million and one things we have to get done.  It's good to have a reason, a nudge, a gentle reminder to re-connect with your partner.

Simple ways to reclaim that passion, of course the traditional flowers, card, or candy is a good place to start... but why not make it more intimate?  Schedule some alone time, put on some sexy lingerie, light some candles, and let that special someone in your life know you still care enough to make an effort.  And remember it's ok to be a mom and be sexy, you're a mom because you have kids, and you have kids because... well we all know that story.  ;)  So tell your Sweetie you love them this Sweetest Day, in whatever way you feel comfortable.

Are Your Kids Eating Enough Veggies?

A recent survey conducted by Ragú showed half of moms say that during the back-to-school season they have less time to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals for their kids.  Sound familiar, need a new idea for dinner?  Well Ragú wants us to feed our kids well.

So to help make sure your kids get the veggies they need (and the meals they love) Ragú Old World Style Traditional Sauce now has 2 servings of veggies in every half cup!  As a mom, I say Yay!  My kids don't eat a lot of vegetables so this is just one more way to sneak them in without them knowing.
It's healthy, delicious and now has a naturally thicker taste the whole family will love.  Ragú Old World Style Traditional Sauce is a perfect component to pulling together quick and tasty meals during this busy time.

Check out their recipes for delicious meal ideas and visit them on Facebook to find out how to enter for a chance to win a Ragú "Meal Makeover" Kit!

Disclosure: I was entered for a chance to win a Ragú® prize package in exchange for this post.  No monetary exchange took place.

New Site Design... Yea or Nay?

So I opted for a new look... is it permanent, I'm not entirely sure yet?  I love a lot of the design, but it's hard to change after having things a certain way for so long.  It also brought to mind companies and their logos.  Specifically, the recent GAP logo gaffe is what I keep coming back to.

If you didn't see or hear about it, they changed their logo last week from the well-known iconic blue box:

To this:
It only lasted 1 week, after an outcry across the web deemed the new logo as ugly among other things and unnecessary.  So Gap admitted they made a mistake and went back to their original logo, posting on their Facebook wall:

“Ok. We’ve heard loud and clear that you don’t like the new logo. We’ve learned a lot from the feedback. We only want what’s best for the brand and our customers. So instead of crowd sourcing, we’re bringing back the Blue Box tonight.

But it makes one wonder, they aren't the first to try to change their logo only to have the public lash out, ie. Tropicana.

Are people just scared of change?  Do we like the familiar and comfortable?  Change can be progressive, sometimes necessary, but does it all go back to the saying, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it'...?

I know my blog look hasn't been around for nearly as long as the above companies, but as blog owners our site look, layout, and design are all part of our branding.  Our readers get used to things a certain way when visiting our site.  I know I have seen some blogs change for the better and others change and I don't quite feel the same about them that I used to.

So do you think I should've changed the design, or kept it as is?  For those with poor memories ;p here's a window snip from my old look:

Good, bad, or indifferent... what do you think?
